'Shakuhachi: The Japanese Flute' features serenely beautiful, centuries old compositions performed solo by Kohachiro Miyata of the Ensemble Nipponia and recorded live during the group's first North American tour in 1976. There are no extraneous production touches, no obvious intrusion of modernity, Explorer Series producer David Lewiston could have recorded this album three decades ago or yesterday.
